Wavy Hair that last for Days!

So I posted this photo on my instagram yesterday with the caption "New hair product: NYM Sea Salt Spray + 1 inch curling iron #hair #waves"

Here is how I did it:

I took a shower at night, smoothed about 4 pumps of Moroccan Oil throughout my hair and went to bed.

In the morning my natural curl was a complete mess. *One thing to remember when you wake up: DO NOT BRUSH YOUR HAIR. You will lose the natural wave.*

So since I very, very rarely shower at night, I wasn't really sure what to do. In efforts to fix it, I sprayed some Not Your Mother's Beach Babe texturizing Sea Salt Spray all over.

This is a unique product because it dries completely matte, meaning it doesn't look "wet" after it dries or provides any kind of "crunchy" texture. It also smells amazing and it's only $4.75.

After that I went layer by layer and wrapped my hair around a 1 inch curling iron. This is a "Hot N Gold" 1 inch iron that I got at TJ Maxx.

You do not want to keep your hair on the iron long, because you are going for a wave, not curl. It's also better for your hair!

After that I sprayed minimally with Vidal Sassoon Extra Firm Hold Hair Spray. I did not use very much at all because I was going for a very light and airy look.

It turned out looking exactly how I'd hoped. And it worked.

I know it worked because 14 hours later it still looked like this...

It pretty much looked the exact same as when I had fixed it at 8am that morning.

I thought "Hm this is interesting...I should see what happens if I just sleep on it." I piled it on my pillow and went to bed.

So here is it at 7am with no touch ups.

I know, it looks exactly the same. There were a few pieces that were kind of stringy or frizzed a little, so I decided to touch them up.

If you are wondering, I will go ahead and say it: I do not wash my hair every day. I have very fine, dry hair and I would have a lot of breakage if I was washing it all the time. I will show you how I still manage to keep it fresh later in this post.

So the first thing I did this morning was put my hair in a bun on the top of my head and took a shower.

After my shower I curled a few pieces using the wrap around technique again like this:

After touching up, I used dry shampoo on my roots. Dry shampoo is the BEST! It makes your hair smell great and absorbs any oils. I think this is the key to keeping it fresh.

This is my absolute favorite dry shampoo and it's only about $4 (I got a good deal on it at Cargo Largo). In my experience, this is better than any high end dry shampoo out there.

If you don't have any on hand, you can always use baby powder, which also works well.

After I spray the dry shampoo, I wait a few minutes then run my fingers through my roots and kind of massage my scalp. It's good to work it into your hair to get rid of any residue that's left over.

Last I used a little bit of Tresemme Shine Spray because it was looking a little dull. I do not put this on my roots, only the lower section of my hair.

If you are wondering if I always put this much product in my hair, the answer is YES! Haha. I love hair products!!

I decided to not use any more hair spray because it didn't really need it and I figured it may weigh it down more than it would help.

Here it is after all the touchups!

This took about 5 minutes to complete this morning, no joke.

I normally wash my hair every other day, but if I wanted to be brave, I think I could easily wear this a third day if I wanted.

I would be happy to answer any questions if you would like to comment in the section below! Also, let me know if you have any suggestions for me! I would be glad to hear them!

Have a blessed day!

  1. 1. You're adorable.
    2. This is amazing!
Thank you SO much for all the blog posts with product recommendations. Having someone I trust's word on things makes me 100% more likely to try them :) I've been wanting to try a good dry shampoo. If I can't find this at Cargo Largo, does Sally's or Walmart cary it??

    Thanks babe!!

    1. Aw thank you so much!! I am the same way about being more likely to buy something if I know someone else likes it.

I have only seen Cargo Largo carry it once, but I know that Walmart will have it. It's usually on the bottom shelf in the hair spray section. I haven't checked Sally's but I have seen it at CVS too.

  2. I loved this! Thanks for all your advice on products and tips on keeping the waves! Definitely will be trying this soon :)
