This past week I traveled to California for work.

It was a long trip. Friday to Thursday. I hated being away from Trent that long.

We traveled all over the place -LA, Oceanside, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Malibu, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Carlsbad....the list goes on.

We did lots...

and lots...

and lots...

and lots...

and lots...

and lots...

and lots of shopping.

Warmer climates usually set out spring footwear before they arrive in the midwest, so shopping in California gave us a few weeks head start on trends in the market for our Spring 2015 development. We are looking for patterns, colors, materials, features, etc.  After a while, you start to piece things together.

"Galactic print on this hat. Galactic print on this shoe. Galactic print on these leggings. Galactic print on this Chanel backdrop."

It was like galactic was literally screaming in my face. And I was like "Woah! Back up off me, galactic. I get it."

And then I thank galactic for reaffirming the on-trend material of our Fall 2014 toddler/girls mid highs coming THIS JULY in every Walmart store in the country!!

I was very much a part of the design process of these babies, and now that they have officially been bought, I'm able to share them :-) SO EXCITING!

We did a little modeling/advertisement shoot with the shoes at Oceanside Skate Park.

A big part of my job is managing our professional skateboard team (since my company makes lots and lots of skate shoes). The past few months I have been coordinating a promo video featuring our guys doing tricks and living life on the West coast.

Our film guy did an excellent job and it was awesome to see the skate lifestyle where it originated.

So the next few days we shopped some more. And some more.

I'm going to be honest here...there are few people I know that can out-shop me. I. CAN. SHOP. I don't even have to buy anything. I can look for hours.

But this week was shopping on a WHOLE new level! We went to (what felt like) every Sketchers store (among many, many other stores) within a 400 mile radius. And I stuffed 3 free gum balls in my mouth every store we went into.

We are talking 100+ gum balls. NO shame.

After you see the same stores over and over it's tough to remember where you saw what. So you just take pictures frantically to remind you and burn your cell phone battery in the process.

A dead phone is what prevented me from taking a photo of my childhood ice skating idol, Scott Hamilton, when we ran into him at a Malibu shopping center.

To be honest, I'm not sure I would have even been capable of taking a photo. I just stared at him. In my head I was just like "...wait....he's a real person?" We also saw Kings of Leon walking around Huntington Beach. That was weird.

And speaking of celebrities, 4 random people told me throughout the week that I looked like a young Farrah Fawcett.

At first I was like "Oh my gosh thank you!" ....And by the 3rd or 4th time I thought "Huh...maybe my hair is really outdated."

Twins, I know.

Another big event: I got to ride in a Bentley.

To be honest, I could care less about cars. But I thought Trent would be excited so I took these pictures and sent them to him.

He starts drilling me with questions on how and why and what kind it is. "I have no idea." I was proud of myself for knowing what the "B" stood for.

"That is a $300,000 car."
".....What kind of sick person spends that kind of money!?"

Another big event: I found these teddy bear tongue shoes while shopping.

My boss got mad when I tried them on. "Focus please."

If focus is not trying on gold sparkle teddy bear tennies, I don't know what is.

Last big event: I got to see my little, Allie :-) LOVE YOU!

Throughout this trip, we ate LOTS of good seafood, walked, shopped, walked some more, shopped, relaxed on a Malibu beach, shopped, walked some more, shopped some more and ate LOTS of good seafood.

Display case in the ground...

Goodbye 70 degree weather. Hello Kansas.

Lady driving the Airport Economy Parking Bus: "Bundle up! Exposed skin can get frostbite in 30 minutes."

I'm sorry what!?!?

  1. The biggest question I have is: DID YOU SEE THE REAL HOUSEWIVES????!!!

  2. Hi Katie!

I noticed you said you saw "your little" during your trip. Were you in a sorority?! I'm an avid follower of your blog and got excited when I saw that since I was a Delta Gamma and I know they have a chapter at University of Missouri :)

    1. Hi Chelsea! I was actually part of a non pan-hellenic sorority called Sigma Phi Lambda. So fun that you are a DG though! I know lots of DG's at MU!

Love your blog! I'm a follower :-) So glad you commented!

  3. Your job sounds like SO much fun!! I was actually in a wedding with one of the members of Kings of Leon. My childhood best friends brother is childhood best friends with one of the members of the band. Looks like your trip was SO much fun!!

    1. That is awesome!! I wish I could say I recognized them, but I really only knew they were there because some kid was like "OMG IT'S KINGS OF LEON!!!!!!" which basically caught everyone's attention within several blocks. HAHA!
