I got hit in the face with a firework

Welllll I got nailed in the face by a firework on Friday night. The "Mean Streak" was mean.

I was observing with friends in lawn chairs close to the house when it malfunctioned and shot towards us from the street.

I had a beautiful little 3 year old girl sitting in my lap, and luckily she didn't get hit. But unfortunately it hit me directly above the eye.

The right half of my face was so hot it felt like I laid it on a hot burner.

I thought for sure it would be a 2nd degree burn, but I miraculously woke up the next day with this odd battle wound...

Sort of looks like teenage acne. Whatever! I'm was just THRILLED my face wasn't completely blistered over. And that it didn't look near as bad as what it felt like. HA!

I partially lost hearing for about 24 hours, and am happy the ringing in my ear is gone!

Last night there was already significant improvement, thanks to a religious supply of Neosporin.

I feel really blessed -it could have been MUCH worse. I'm thankful for friends who kept me calm and an ear nose and throat doctor that was there at the party to check my hearing :-)

Aside from that traumatic event, it was a good 4th! Our weekend in photos...

  1. Hi Katie,

I know this is totally random, but I am friends with Andi Blackwell (my name is Chloe), and from what she tells me, you know her. I am interested in starting a blog and am curious about what blog site you use and how you got your blog design like it is. I love it! I have messed around with BlogSpot but have yet to find a style that fits me. Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated! Oh, and I love those camo pants.

    Thanks! Chloe Armontrout

    1. Hi Chloe! Yes, of course I know Andi! She is so great!

I'm excited that you are starting a blog! It's so fun to be able to look back on the little details on your life and share your experiences with others. I use BlogSpot too, and my website design was made by Kristin White: http://cargocollective.com/kristinwhite . Custom design is more expensive than pre-made templates. To start, I would suggest surfing etsy.com to find a pre-made template that run $5-$25ish. Ironcially, I'm working on a blog post about how I got started with blogging that should be posted in the next day or two.

  2. Thanks for your help! I am super excited to get my blog up and running. There is just a lot of behind the scenes work, as you know. I have one more question, how do you create links for new pages? Like when I click on your faith picture, it takes me to your page about faith. I can't figure it out!

    Thanks again!

    1. To get "topics" like the "faith" topic, you have to create a page. The page, once you click on it, doesn't necessarily auto-fill. I manually input every single picture link into each page based on category. It's a lot of work!

Kristin, my blog's designer, is the one who made the categories (like "faith") a picture link. I wish I knew how to do that!
